Eggcellent News

Unfortunately there just havent been enough of us Derby Dabblers to be able to meet up for the last couple of months at St. Martins.  The room that we hire is quite expensive and if there arent enough people to cover the cost of the room, the Dabblers cant get together. 

With quite a few suggestions made by quite a few people, we have a few new and exciting changes for Derby Dabblers

NEW VENUE - St. Edmunds Church, Sinfin Avenue, Shelton Lock, DE24 9JA There is a little map below but if you are struggling with where the church is, you are most welcome to meet at my house on Friday 4th April and you can follow me in my car.  I shall be leaving home at 6.15pm

NEW PRICE - as the new venue is a smaller room which is lovely with a nice atmosphere, there is off road car parking on the church grounds, lighting outside the building and a little ramp to push crafty trolleys up, the cost is considerable cheaper.  The price per person will be £1.50 which will include refreshments for a few months trial, to see how we get on.

DEMONSTRATIONS - Many have said they would like to see more demonstrations at each get together.  Perhaps we could club together and get some profession demonstrators to come to dabblers to give us demos for scrapbooking, cards or other crafts?  Something to discuss on 4th April.

On Friday, 4th April there will be a few Easter themed demonstrations such as making pom pom chicks

You will need
some yellow or white wool
A pom pom maker or two pieces of cardboard cut in circles
scissors
orange card for beak
wobbly eyes
If you dont have these, there will be some available to buy on the night.

Or you could make your own little Easter egg treat bag

You will need a piece of card which is 3" long by
A scoreboard or a ruler and embossing pen
A flower stamp or a leaf stamp. I have used Pocket Silhouttes Stamp set
An Oval punch
A cropodile
Yellow Ribbon
Cello Bag
Small Chocolate Eggs
Red sticky tape or glue/tape of your choice
Yellow card and ink to make a chick to go on the front.  3 d foam pads

If you would like to make this but dont have the items, there will be some available to buy on the night.

Or make a little Easter Box

You will need some White card for the box, for the ovals and for the flowers
A scoreboard or a ruler and embossing pen
An oval punch and a scalloped oval punch
A piece of Summery bright yellow or bright green paper
A long cello bag or acetate bag or treat bag to put chocolate in
Chocolate eggs
Ribbon
A flower stamp and punch, yellow and orange ink
Scissors to cut out flower if you dont have a punch
Dont forget your sticky stuff

If you dont have all the items to make this, you can purchase some on the night.
 
Or you could make little Easter bags to put in a chocolate treat or a little money or a card etc. etc.

For the bags you will need some double sided 12 x 12 papers.  If you bring along 2 sheets the same, you have a choice of the size of your bag.  There will be lots of bags there for you to see on the night

2 x 12 x 12 double sided papers (the thicker the paper the better)
some matching ribbon
some card the matches the ribbon and the papers
sticky stuff, glue or red tape
A cropodile if you have one
A timmer
A scoreboard or a ruler and embossing pen
If you dont have the items to make this, you can purchase some on the night.

Of course, you dont have to do any of the items being demonstrated.  Come along and have a cuppa , come and knit and natter.  Bring your photos and do some scrapbooking,  bring all the items you need  to make your own cards or finish of some jewelery you have been making.  Lots of new friends ready for you to meet.

The time of the get together remains the same, 6.30pm until about 9.30pm.  Demonstrations will begin at 7pm.

You may want to bring a mug/cup to this venue and please do put on a name badge if you have one.  If you have a friend or two that may be interested, bring them along, the more the merrier

All boxed up

Goodness, it is a long time since anyone posted any information here.  Hopefully, we can all add a little something, now and again.  I have given us all a new front door, I hope you like it. 

Unfortunately, there were not enough of us to have a get together at St, Martins Church Hall last night.  There needs to be quite a few to make it viable to pay for the room hire but, this is something that I am looking into.  Moving on.

A few of us did meet up in my house, the invitation went out to everyone who said they could make dabblers.  And we sat and made a box or two, I did a bit of decopatch and Christina sorted out a few cards.  We sat and chattered, ate fresh cream cake (thank you P.Ann).  Here is one of the boxes that I made.

Our next get together is as usual, first Friday of April,  which is the 4th.  Plans are being made for an EGGsellent evening with the theme of Easter, along with a demonstration or two (possibly 3).  I shall keep the blog posted with all the new plans so please, do watch this space.

Well 2014 is well and truely with us now.   I bet everyone has had enough of Christmas Cards but I received this one from a friend who's 84 year old Aunt in Law made it and I thought it was lovely.  Although not many Dabblers stitch cards as crafter's we know how much work goes into them

Birthday Card List

I hope that everyone has had a wonderful Christmas so far and that you are enjoying this festive time. 

Unfortunately the Birthday Card List has not worked out so well during 2013 and quite a few ladies on the list have asked to be removed as they felt it was a little unfair that they go to the trouble of making and sending cards and this isn't being reciprocated. Therefore for 2014 there wont be a Birthday Card List for Derby Dabblers but that doesn't stop you from sending cards to anyone on the list, if you wish. 

2013 Derby Dabblers Christmas Fuddle

What a wonderful time we had last night at our last 2013 get together.  The turn out was lovely,everyone outdid themselves with the fuddle, it was a lovely selection

The official photographs, taken by our official photographers, you know, the ones around the Christmas tree, will be on the blog a little later.  Buffy and Jane took those for us.

Now we were all making tags and boxes but guess what, I was having such a lovely time that I didnt take pictures of those so, if you have a picture of a tag or two, please do pop it on the blog.

Christmas Fuddle

Friday 13th December will be the last get together of Derby Dabblers for 2013.  It would be lovely if we could all meet up for the Christmas Fuddle and a Secret Santa as well as a little crafting of course.

As usual we shall be at St. Martins Church Hall, Flint Street, Allenton, DE24 9BG from 6.30 - 9.30 and there will be the usual tea, coffee and squash.  The price will be £3 per person.  If you can come along with a little something either sweet or savoury, homemade or shop purchased,  for the fuddle table that would be great.  If you cant dont worry, please dont let that stop you from coming along, we will still be very pleased to see you.
 
If you would like to take part in the secret Santa, please let me know so that I can keep updating everyone. If you would like to take part, you purchase a little present up to the value of £8, wrap it up and then put it in Santas Sack.  At the end of the evening, everyone who participated will put their hand in the sack, pull out a present and put it under their Christmas tree for Christmas day, I think its a lovely idea.

It doesnt matter if this is the first time that you are coming along to dabblers, you will receive a warm welcome from everyone.  Just bring a mug, a name badge and some crafty item to keep you busy.

The theme for the evening, if you wish to craft is TAGS.  Christmas tags, birthday tags any type of tag at all.  You will need card, maybe a stamp or two, perhaps some glitter?  Anything at all to make a tag and, if you have already made some, why not bring them along to show others.

Dont forget, if you would like to hand out a Christmas Card or two, please bring those along with you, saves on the postage.

Let me know if you can / cant make it and I shall keep the Dabblers Blog Up to date with what is happening.  If there are not enough of us, I am afraid it wont be able to go ahead - UPDATE - There are enough of us so this will be going ahead.  Please continue to let me know if you are coming along though. NOVEMBER get together - grab your name badge, your cup and your craft bag

It is Derby Dabblers November get together this Friday, 1st November.

Hopefully we can meet from 6.30 - 9.30 at St. Martins Church Hall on Flint Street, in Allenton. I am told that the electrician has been and we should have a light outside the door that will come on when we arrive and leave. Paul will be putting a drain cover over that large hole just outside the door, making it a lot safer.

Would anyone like to do a demonstration? It would be lovely if someone could. Just let me know so that I can pass on any items we need to bring to everyone else.

The theme for the evening has to be Christmas. Please bring along anything Christmassy that you are happy to share, stamps, ribbons, buttons etc. and we can have a Christmas Card / Scrapbook page evening. I will try and bring along some carols to put on the squawk box - or is it too early? Dont forget your card, ink and colours.

I shall be happy to bake a cake or two as I am off work this week but if anyone else would like to bring something in, the more the merrier.

Does anyone know how to use wax seals? I have a little box with everything in but dont know how to use it. I would be very grateful if someone could show me. Is there something that you would like to know how to use? If so, just let me know and I will see if I can get you some help on the night.

Box of Freebies - There will be a box of FREE items on the table. If there is anything that you no longer need, please pop it in the box as it may come in useful for other crafters.

Christmas Party Night/Fuddle. We have already been told that we cant use St. Martins on the first Friday of December, boo hoo. So I have asked if we can have it on Friday 13th for our Christmas Fuddle and it is available but, I have to book it by Saturday 2nd November. Can you please let me know if you will, or wont, be able to come along to the fuddle. For those that would like to come, would you like a secret santa i.e. you purchase a present to the value of £8.00 You wrap the present and put it in a big box on the night. Everyone who puts a present in, takes a present out and puts it under their Christmas tree? I think it is a lovely idea and am happy to do this and it just needs a few more ladies to join me.

For November, we need a minimum of 8 people for this to go ahead to pay for the cost of the room hire. If you could let me know if you will, or wont be attending, that would be lovely. The cost is still £3 for adults and £2 for the youngsters.  I shall keep updating the numbers below
